Discover the Elk River! The Elk River Water Trail is a calm flatwater river that starts at the Sutton Dam in Braxton County, West Virginia and ends where it meets the Kanawha River in Charleston, West Virginia. In total, the river stretches 172 miles. The slow flow and lack of fast rapids make the Elk River an ideal setting for leisurely float trips and fantastic fishing. 

The Elk River is often called the best all-in-one river in West Virginia by biologist who recognize it for its exceptional diversity. The Elk is home to rare invertebrates, including crayfish found nowhere else in the world. Fish that inhabit the Elk River include: Brook Trout, Golden Trout, Bass, and Muskie to name a few.
